Okay, enough of the how to learn Thai in 5 minutes. I just wanted to post photos and/or at least try to describe my trip to Thailand back in 2007. Stop laughing, I'm aware that it's like two years ago. Initially, I wanted to have the whole 3 days together but I figured that'd be too long so I'm going to post it separately.
25 August 2007
On a very sunny Saturday (which I couldn't care less as we have the same and unique four seasons all year long in Malaysia: Humid, Not So Humid, Very Humid, Super Humid) approximately between 10 a.m. to noon, I was sitting at a corner forlornly because of the wretched flight that was delayed for 2 hours. Finally, at either noon or 2p.m., me and my family of 8 took an AirAsia plane to Phuket, Thailand. I bet you could've guessed which airline I took, considering the aforementioned important yet meaningful word, "delayed". However, i must say it is quite safe compared to it's utterly pitiful cabin size, the dreadful turbulence for most of the journey, and the need to walk a mile to reach the plane itself, and having the need to race and compete to the plane to get nice seats, not to mention the air quality inside. The airport was crowded. I fell asleep in the shuttle bus on the way to our hotel. Heard a baby crying, woke me up. Return to sleep. Arrived at Banthai hotel opposite of Patong beach, Phuket. We checked-in in the evening. Writing this is time consuming.
Patong Beach - Holy buckets!! it's was crowded as ever when I overlooked the beach before entering the hotel.
I grabbed these photos from the internet as I didn't take any pictures of the hotel
Checked in to Banthai Beach Resort Hotel, decent lobby with a bar just after the entrance.
This was not the room I stayed in, my room was somewhere behind the opposite block
This looks like the room I stayed in, I think. As it was already evening by the time we checked-in, I took a shower and browsed the room with scrutiny. Extra pillows? Check. Bath Robe? Check. Flip-flops? Check. At night, I went out to eat dinner at Patong seafood restaurant with my family.
As we didn't know the way, we had to ask the locals the direction to the renowned Patong Seafood Restaurant. Then, I stepped outside the hotel and there's like gazillions of tuk-tuk (lightweight vehicle) waiting for customers. Like lions waiting for their prey. They're also like the taxis in Malaysia but with three wheels, as they love to cheat tourists with exorbitant and overpriced rates.
However, sometimes when you pass by them, it's really hard to avoid them as they'll come and harass or beg you to take a tuk-tuk or else, they will give free rides to tall American sunbathing girls by saying really complimentary words like an Asian Casanova.
Sadly, we did take a tuk-tuk to the restaurant because no one in my family wanted to walk. This is because Malaysians don't go very far with their legs. We depend too much on cars, specifically cars as no one uses public transport. Monorails & KTMs are unsafe, unpleasant, unpunctual, unprompted, unaccomplished, inefficient and obsolete. Taxis are irrelevant as most Malaysians drive and as I said earlier, most of them scam not only tourists but locals too. They are no different than thugs as they do not follow the meter and often give excuses to charge a ridiculous high fare. These notoriously greedy taxi drivers also choose customers. Not to mention that I've read an Msn article on the world's worst taxi service. Not surprisingly, Malaysia was on top of that list.
But thank god the food there was good. You get to choose on how to cook your choice of very fresh seafood.
After dinner, I still had quite some time so I decided to walk around and discover more about Phuket. So I walked through Bangla Road, where Phuket nightlife happens. It also has many shops and many transvestites stood there waiting for customers.
As I walked through Bangla road, there are pubs on my left and right with girls pole dancing. Apparently, a girl followed me while asking if I needed her service. I didn't even dare to look at her, because I was afraid if she was a guy or in other words, a shemale. Seriously, it is like red-light district in Bangla road.
Holy cow, look at the two shemale prostitutes (left & right). I got this randomly while Googling transvestites in Bangla road.
The one on the left look like a shemale version of Two-Face
Very beautiful night view of the pool, not very particularly spacious but very relaxing if it isn't crowded and quite perfect for couples to swim at night. Overall, the hotel fared pretty good, i'd give it ★★★★ stars out of 5
Then at midnight, I went out alone without telling my dad and went to the nearest McDonald's to get an ice-cream, just a 2 minute walk. There are also numerous bars and shops around, but thankfully no transvestites. Sawadee krup! สวัสดี Ronald McDonald showing you how it's done
