Overture
by Ursula Doyle
King Henry VIII, 1491-1547
To Anne Boleyn
My Mistress and my Friend:
My heart and I surrender themselves into your hands, and
we supplicate to be commended to your good graces, and
that by absence your affections may not be diminished to us,
for that would be to augment our pain, which would be a
great pity, since absence gives enough, and more than I ever
thought could be felt. This brings to my mind a fact in
astronomy, which is, that the further the poles are from the
sun, notwithstanding, the more scorching is the heat. Thus
it is with our love; absence has placed distance between us,
the same from you, assuring you that in my case the anguish
of absence is so great that it would be intolerable were it not
towards me. In order to remind you of it, and because I can-
not in person be in your presence, I send you the thing
which comes nearest that is possible, that it is to say, my pic-
ture, and the whole device, which you already know of, set
in bracelets, wishing myself in their place when it pleases you.
This is from the hand of
Your servant and friend,
H.R.
sure it sounded very romantic, sweet and filled your heart with butterflies
it was and still is the perfect way to express your undying love towards someone,
according to women
sadly it is just something that men created to con/engross women even if they really meant it at that time
it served as a tool to lure their lover/angel/beloved/sweet girl
but those were different men, they know that it won't last long and it didn't necessarily needed to
this is why the good men nowadays tend to turn away from writing love letters
as they are afraid that it might backfire
because they know it doesn't guarantee an everlasting relationship
I am talking about great men who did not write love letters but treated their beloved wife perfectly
and how about those jerks that left you crying for days and made you go through sleepless nights but really did write a perfectly composed love letter to you
and that moment you think that it will last just like the fairy tales
it isn't reluctant for guys to write a simple love letter to testify their love
but they just do it through actions, not words
so start accepting guys that treat u good regardless the need of a perfectly composed love letter
because love letters are like a curse, it is so beautifully written yet so much blood have been shed and lives taken with it
thanks to email, text messages, online messengers we can finally say good riddance to love letters, cheers!
Aftermath :- the passionate scorching heat of their romance was cut short as it lead to a tragic end; this also shows you that beautiful moments don't last very long and it was only genuine at that time (notice how drastically the relationship changed and consequently resulting in death and remarrying another four times)
Anne Boleyn was the second of King Henry VIII's six wifes
Henry was obsessed with Anne but married to Katherine of Aragon at that time
The Roman Catholic Church refused to grant him a divorce,
eventually led to King Henry's break with Rome and establishment of Church of England
the couple finally got married after seven years of turmoil
when Anne Boleyn could not bear a male to secure her as Queen, she tried to copulate with her brother in order to get a male descendant as heir apparent to the throne (talk about desperation point at it's peak)
Queen Anne was then charged for treason, adultery, incest (yuck! Die, bloody boleyn whore) and finally beheaded
